I had never sewn a garment. For a long time I really wanted to sew a circle skirt, because I heard they were a great beginner project, but it was merely an idea. Finding THIS VIDEO HERE by Made Everyday. She made it look SO simple…

I shared this project on my old blog, but wanted to re-share it here.
So of course, I had to find the perfect fabric. Working in a fabric shop had its perks in that department! I chose this black star print cotton fabric, which was perfect as I have a black petticoat, and I wanted to make the skirt to go over it.

This gorgeous fabric washes up beautifully, and is so soft and versatile. It comes in an array of fun colours and is available to buy from the very same store, TruroFabrics.com.
How to Sew a Circle Skirt

So, following the instructions in the video, I measured and cut my fabric to overlap the petticoat, which is already a circle in itself, which made things quite simple in terms of measurements!

The whole project was SO easy and quick to make, simply hemming the edges and adding elastic to the waist! All I needed aside from fabric and elastic, were a handful of pins, black thread and of course my sewing machine.

It stitched up really easily, and looks amazing, and of course the petticoat makes it a little more flared. It turned out really well, having never sewn a garment before I was very pleased with myself!
I made another one… read about it here

(Edit August 2017) Just wanted to add this photo of me, wearing the skirt! I have worn it more, but never had brilliant light! As you can see it looks FAB!
What do you think? Would you try to sew a circle skirt now I’ve shared this?
