I’m surprised looking back at the blog recently; that there aren’t more posts sharing days out to zoos and wildlife parks. It’s definitely something we really enjoy and something I will totally endeavour to share more of in the future!
This year my A-Z Challenge theme is: The Craft Room and Beyond – A Retrospective. A look back at previous content and basically a chance to share and revisit some things from the archive. As well as exploring things that haven’t made it to the blog yet! As I have said before; if you see something that piques your interest that I don’t link to; certainly seek out the search bar, or get in touch!
Zoos and Wildlife Sanctuaries
Whether it’s trips to the local zoos and wildlife sanctuaries in the area; or heading further afield; I am a big fan of animal encounters and learning and helping in the process. I really like feeling I am supporting wildlife causes while getting to visit some of these incredible attractions.
One of our favourite local attractions is Newquay Zoo; not too far from home, it’s great to be able to wander around the gorgeous gardens; and learn more about the animals calling Newquay zoo home. Working with breeding programs and more, it’s also really informative and educational.
Animals and Birds Alike
Locally we also like to visit Porfell wildlife park, which I really need to post about; as well as the Seal Sanctuary; and of course seeing the birds (and more) at Paradise Park and Screech Owl Sanctuary. This is definitely something that needs to show up on the blog more in the future!
Wild Experiences Outside of Cornwall
Further afield we have visited Longleat on more than one occasion; the first time paying for the close-up land rover safari experience which was incredible (and at times hilarious). We have also driven around (avoiding the monkey enclosure)! We have had some wonderful experiences like feeding the giraffes, and meeting some of the other animals up close!
I definitely want to go to more places outside of Cornwall; when we are able, because you learn so much; and it’s a great way to see some gorgeous birds and animals. I know some people disagree with zoos and so on; but the work that is done to help some of the animals; whether it is protecting those that cannot live out of captivity, educating visitors, on their impact on wildlife; or by participating in breeding; rehabilitation and protection programs across the world; I find it hard to see how these places can be a bad thing.
Do you have any favourite animal encounter stories? Let me know in the comments below! Or of course you can always drop me a tweet! I’m on most social media, you can find the links below!
Thank you for joining me for this years A-Z Challenge! It’s been fun looking back, and of course, I’ll still be sharing new content as we go!
