Welcome to The Craft Room and Beyond – I suppose I should share a little about me; what I do and who is the face behind the blog – so here we go:
I’m Kay, a British
blogger, based in Cornwall UK. I have been blogging for almost ten years before
creating The Craft Room and Beyond. In the past I have worked with a variety of
brands and independent businesses. I hope in time that this will continue.
For a long time I
was a craft blogger, before moving on to cover travel and occasional home
projects, eventually sharing more of my day to day life and interests. This led
to needing to create an online space where all of this fits together more
appropriately, The Craft Room and Beyond is that space.
I can be contacted at craftroomandbeyond[at]outlook.com
Crafts & Hobbies
I have been an avid crafter for many years, learning to knit, cross-stitch and sew in my childhood. I now do all of these, with the addition of card making and scrapbooking, and occasionally try my hand at other crafts too!
I’m also the host of Twitter chat #BCChat; a weekly dose of everything and anything for creative bloggers, but NOT just craft, it’s a non selling hour for making friends and getting “Beyond Craft” (Tuesdays at 8pm GMT).
Outside of
crafting, I have a wide range of hobbies, from music (we both play guitar and
sing), film and TV (Netflix is life) and of course days out!
I also enjoy baking,
reading and generally relaxing with a game or jigsaw puzzle!
Home
I live in Cornwall
UK, with my boyfriend of almost 10 years, Stu, and our two cats Darth Sidious
(aka Sid) and Loki. We rent our home, which gives a fun perspective on how you
can truly make a space your own, when you can’t alter everything as you may
like!
Living in Cornwall gives us a great excuse to get outside and explore our surroundings, we have held National Trust membership for a while now, and love to visit local sites, as well as exploring the many museums, beaches and other places available on our doorstep.
Travel
Stu and I like to get away a couple of times a year when we can, sometimes more often. We usually have a UK break, as well as travelling further afield, for example in 2019 we travelled to Somerset, Leicester and Sussex within the UK and at the end of the year we had a short break in Venice, Italy.
Quite often we will have a day out together at least once a month, whether it’s a relaxed walk around a garden or historic site, having fun at an amusement park, or going to car shows and other events!
If there is anything more you would like to know about me, do feel free to get in touch – I’m pretty easy going!
One of my favourite things about the blog; is getting to share our travel and days out, something we very much do for fun!

More on the way!
We hope to be able to get away a little more soon; in the meantime, I hope you enjoy our posts sharing our travel and days out. If you would like us to share any places in particular, within Cornwall; do get in touch and we’ll see what we can do! We love heading out and always welcome new ideas!
If we share a travel announcement before going somewhere; and you think of somewhere we should visit on a trip; for a day out, to visit or even food and drink, I’d definitely love to hear from you too!
We had planned to visit two national trust sites on the Saturday of our weekend in Somerset; though after a morning at Montacute House; we finished looking around Barrington Court at around 3pm. We figured we had just enough time to visit somewhere else! So we headed to the nearby Lytes Cary Manor…
I have to say, we’re so glad to have National Trust membership; because it made this busy day of visiting sites SO easy! (Not to mention affordable)!
Recently we spent the weekend in Somerset, just to get away for a couple of days. Staying in the pretty village of Montacute. After a morning at Montacute House, we hopped into the car and drove the 10 miles to Barrington Court a Tudor Manor house near Ilminster.
We’re on a bit of a budget at the moment, and so we decided to check out a couple of nearby National Trust sites, as we are members, so get free entry to lots of sites in the UK, which of course we haven’t explored before!
There’s nothing like a break away, and we recently had a weekend away in Somerset, staying in the pretty village of Montacute. Where better to start the first day of our trip; than the property a mere five minute walk from where we stayed: Montacute House.
After going to Haynes Motor Museum on the way, before reaching our B&B that evening. On our first proper day, we set out to visit a couple of National Trust sites nearby to enjoy a relaxed sunny Saturday…
It’s Travel announcement time! We’re off on a little UK mini break to Somerset! We try to get away a couple of times a year; just to blow away the cobwebs and explore somewhere new!
We’ve been to Somerset a few times, though we’re trying to head to new places, so it’s still an adventure!
We are headed to Somerset, mostly because it’s not too far away from Cornwall; but far enough that it feels like a real break! Our plan is to find a nice B&B; and just head out to enjoy the surrounding area for a couple of days!
Date night was so much fun at the end of last year that we thought we’d bring it back again this year! So join us for a chat; Date Night: January 2019 style!
There will be some changes, as we’ve decided it’s a chance to share what we’ve been loving each month!
Last weekend we headed to Lanhydrock at Christmas, one of our favourite of the places we visited this year; with a festive touch!
Throughout this year we have visited a number of National Trust properties; thanks to having couples membership. It seemed only right to go again this month, before it runs out in January, especially at this most pretty time of year.
Of all our National Trust visits, it seems fitting; that one of our final properties to visit in 2018; was one that had been on my list for a very long time; the beautiful, Antony House.
Antony House in Torpoint is an 18th Century mansion; now owned by the National Trust; it is still home to the family that have owned the estate since the 16th Century.
A whole new month has begun, and of course we’ve been busy visiting! In this post I’m sharing our visit to the lovely Trerice!
At the end of September, we had to get in a few visits so I will still have monthly content for you; as many places close for renovations and refurbishment over the winter months.
Also our National Trust membership runs out in January so we wanted to see as much as possible. It’s been AMAZING to explore so many places!
