Historic Houses – A-Z Challenge 2021

Something you will of course find a fair bit of here on the blog, are posts about our days out, and local wanderings! We love visiting some of the historic houses and sites here in cornwall; as well as many other places of interest!

A-Z Challenge 2021

This year my A-Z Challenge theme is: The Craft Room and Beyond – A Retrospective. A look back at previous content and basically a chance to share and revisit some things from the archive. As I have said before; if you see something that piques your interest that I don’t link to; certainly seek out the search bar, or get in touch!

12 Days of Christmas 2020 – Christmas at Trerice

We weren’t sure if we would manage a festive day out this year, what with how this year has been. We did manage to find a little bit of Christmas at Trerice; so headed there for a little walk this week!

Christmas 11

Christmas at some of the local National Trust properties; is such a wonderful thing to experience. In the past we have visited Lanhydrock and Trelissick to see the decorations.

National Trust in Cornwall – TBT Look Back

We’ve visited many of the National Trust sites in Cornwall, and I thought I was long overdue for a post sharing them all in a comprehensive list! So here’s a Throwback Thursday look back at some of the places we’ve been!

A Day Out To – Lanhydrock Gardens

I’m so glad we’re getting back to going out once or twice a month again; we’ve visited Trelissick already, and now it’s time for Lanhydrock Gardens. It’s a little more complicated with booking in advance, so a there’s not as much chance to be impulsive.

You can find out more about booking visiting times for the National Trust here.

But with the amazing weather we’re having at the moment; it’s so nice to get out, and enjoy some of our favourite places in the sunshine!

A day out to...

Of course the National Trust houses aren’t open yet; which is understandable, but it’s a rare treat to be able to get out and enjoy Lanhydrock’s beautiful gardens; which, if you’re eagle eyed when it comes to past posts, our visits usually get a bit rainy! (This is purely coincidental! We just have bad luck visiting when it comes to the weather!) The gardens are beautiful, and there is so much to see.

A Day Out To – Trelissick Gardens

Finally we are able to get out and about again! So we’re heading not too far from home this week, to one of our favourite nearby National Trust sites, Trelissick Gardens.

A day out to...

Now I’m back to work facing the general public again, so, it meant we’ve decided to make the occasional booking for a day out again. At least here, a few places are open, in some capacity, with timed arrivals spots available for booking around a day or two in advance.

Of course this is a difficult time, but we really enjoy our wanders around local National Trust properties and gardens, and have missed them so much over the lockdown, so for our first wander (aside from the local park) we booked to visit Trelissick.

12 Days Of Christmas 2019 – Lanhydrock Masked Ball

Honestly we were going to do a different National Trust Christmas event this year, but then we heard about the NEW Masked Ball! And we had to go and check it out!

It is no secret that Lanhydrock House is probably my favourite National Trust property, it is incredible, and I’ve blogged about it more than once… But indulge me, and join me;

Lytes Cary Manor – Somerset 2019 (4)

We had planned to visit two national trust sites on the Saturday of our weekend in Somerset; though after a morning at Montacute House; we finished looking around Barrington Court at around 3pm. We figured we had just enough time to visit somewhere else! So we headed to the nearby Lytes Cary Manor…

Somerset 2019 - Lytes Cary Manor

I have to say, we’re so glad to have National Trust membership; because it made this busy day of visiting sites SO easy! (Not to mention affordable)!

Barrington Court – Somerset 2019 (3)

Recently we spent the weekend in Somerset, just to get away for a couple of days. Staying in the pretty village of Montacute. After a morning at Montacute House, we hopped into the car and drove the 10 miles to Barrington Court a Tudor Manor house near Ilminster.

Somerset 2019 - Barrington Court

We’re on a bit of a budget at the moment, and so we decided to check out a couple of nearby National Trust sites, as we are members, so get free entry to lots of sites in the UK, which of course we haven’t explored before!

Montacute House – Somerset 2019 (2)

There’s nothing like a break away, and we recently had a weekend away in Somerset, staying in the pretty village of Montacute. Where better to start the first day of our trip; than the property a mere five minute walk from where we stayed: Montacute House.

Somerset 2019 - Montacute House (27)

After going to Haynes Motor Museum on the way, before reaching our B&B that evening. On our first proper day, we set out to visit a couple of National Trust sites nearby to enjoy a relaxed sunny Saturday…
